Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never played field hockey before. Can I still join?
Absolutely! We work with players of all levels, from beginners to advanced. Our coaches specialize in meeting you where you are.
Can I try a practice before registering?
Yes! Your first practice is free. Fill out the new player form and come ready to play. If you enjoy it, you can register for the full season.
I don’t have any equipment yet. What should I do?
For your first session, sneakers, gym clothes, shinguards, and a mouthguard are all you need. Check our Player Resources page for equipment guidance, or email wcriptide@gmail.com with questions.
What’s the difference between field hockey shinguards and soccer shinguards?
Field hockey shinguards cover your ankles and entire shin up to your kneecap. We recommend hard shell shinguards for the best protection.
Do I really need a mouthguard?
Yes! A mouthguard is required for every practice and game. You can grab one at Big 5 Sports, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or Amazon Prime.
What size field hockey stick do I need?
If you’re 5’1″ or taller, we recommend a 36-36.5 inch stick. Visit our Player Resources page for detailed sizing information.
Can I just wear sneakers, or do I need special shoes?
Sneakers work perfectly! Field hockey turf shoes are optional if you want them later.
What age groups do you have at this location?
Our Huntington Beach location serves ages U12-U19.
Do I need to buy a pinny?
Yes. All players need a Riptide pinny for scrimmages. Add it during registration, or use this link. You don’t have to purchase a pinny until after your free trial. Email wcriptide@gmail.com if you have any issues.
What if the pinnies aren’t here yet?
Just wear a white or primarily dark shirt for scrimmage purposes until your pinny arrives.
Do you offer financial aid?
Email wcriptide@gmail.com. We offer financial assistance because we believe cost should never prevent anyone from playing.
Will we play games or just practice?
We scrimmage within the club and against other teams as often as possible! You’ll get plenty of game experience throughout the season.
What if the practice location or time changes?
We’ll notify you as soon as possible if there are any changes to the session location or time.
I have more questions. Who do I contact?
Email us anytime at wcriptide@gmail.com! We’re here to help.
